Rose of Jericho: At the Hearth of 231st

I felt In my bones,,,a calling to finally share my story with Rose of Jericho and how I personally magic with it. Especially as the Sun is at the last degrees of Capricorn shifting into a new season. My story begins during my teen years as I traveled from Brooklyn to 231 st in the Bronx. Visiting my beloved sister Enid, a Capricornian at heart. As usual upon my arrival to her lively apartment with music blaring from windows or the sound of the FDNY in the kitty corner making its heroic escape to save the day with its siren, I would go straight to the kitchen with my mother. The pot on the stove sizzling with ingredients to make Papa Rellenas (stuffed potato). Steam rising from the crack she’d made in the middle of the potato and ground beef.

On the side, stood a white table small enough for two guests and on the corner a glass bowl half full with a Rosa de Jerico submerged under water. On top of the green leafy plant stood a statue of the Virgin Mary, oxidized coins and dollar bills with a rosary as an accessory. A live altar in the very hearth of the small kitchen on 231st.

Years later while in meditation -of course an adult by then- I received a vision. The vision re-introduced me to the Rose of Jericho, which laid dormant in my memory. I didn't know why this plant was coming but a snippet of my sister's mini Rose de Jericho came to mind. Immediately I got an influx of all the tools I needed to make an abundance + money bowl. The same bowl my sister had in her kitchen as we ate Papas Rellenas con mami. 

Before I share how- I magic with Rosa de Jericho, I would like to first introduce or reintroduce this beautiful botanical to you. You’re not here by coincidence, you might've already had your own story to pull out of the cabinets in your memory. What’s Rose of Jericho? The botanical is divided by two different species of plants unrelated to one another. The ‘real’ Rose de Jericho has the ability to survive desiccation, the process of drying out. Its scientific name is Anastatica hierochuntica. So it dries out, forming a ball. When moisture gets into the plant it opens up exposing its stems. It’s brown/ greenish in color.  It can survive for many years.

From the feel and look of the plant its adaptable to dry areas as well as more moist areas. It’s a bit rough in the ways it feels. From the characteristics of the plant, my metaphysical understanding is as follows: The plant dries up, closing up while moisture causes the plant to open is symbolic of a hand opening and closing. This vibration of giving and receiving of abundance the universe has prepared to provide to each one of us. Furthermore, the hand symbolizes the support we can receive and give to others. Through those acts of intentions for the higher good and genuine support we can be blessed by the universe. 

This very symbol takes me to the next point of how-I personally magic with the Rose of Jericho. Personally, I work with the Rose as an abundance and money bowl. For everyone it may look different. But the most important thing is to have a clear intention. What is the purpose in which you’re working with this beautiful botanical? Once the intention is clear, gather all of the tools - again this may look different for everyone : Go personally to a herbal shop and intuitively pick the Rose of Jericho. Feel through it, at this point you’re building a relationship with your new Rose. Grab a glass bowl from your collection at home or visit your local store for  bowls - no plastics. Grab a few coins such as pennies, dimes or dollars - try not to leave the dollar submerged in the water for more than 24 hours as it will become paper thin. From experience, I made the mistake of leaving it in the bowl for way too long. I thought it would be a great idea to leave the bills drying on my window sill. Guess what? The bills are permanently stuck there like stickers. Anyways the lesson here is to take it out as soon as you can remember. The magic will still remain as effective. 

Now you have gathered the basics: Rose of Jericho, glass bowl, coins and dollars. The magic begins. Now, remember the intention you set for working with Jericho? Infuse your intention into the botanical by allowing yourself to focus and meditate. When you’re ready, make sure to fill the bowl with tap water - no need for bottled water- fill halfway or less the glass bowl. Add the coins and dollars. Finally, put the Rose of Jericho over all that goodness - by this time you’ll notice the plant is a tight fist. Give it some time so the balled fist opens up. In three days look around for any synchronicities of the intention you’ve set out into the universe and see all the greatness that can come in. After those days you may use the water as body or floor wash or make it as creative as you want it to be. Have fun.

May all your desires be made manifest. May this guide bring you light to act out of love  oneself, and others. The universal law of love, abundance and your story within it.

Are you Experiencing a Spiritual Awakening? Hear me out...

Welcome to the Mystical Intelligence Blog with Shayla! It's a sunny October afternoon here in New York City. Today, I want to share my perspective and guide you through the transformative process of spiritual awakening.

According to a close friend of mine, a spiritual awakening is waking from society's norms by becoming more conscious and aware. Other definitions include a call to awaken to higher consciousness and an opening of our mental processes. Some may say it's when our third eye, the space between our eyebrows, opens to higher consciousness. Scientifically, the pineal gland, aka The 3rd eye, in the brain's center, plays a part in the awakening. In other cultural-spiritual practices, we are opening the 3rd eye in awakenings. Terms to describe an awakening include enlightenment, bliss, higher consciousness, and woke, to name a few.

After much reflection and listening to folks describe spiritual awakening, here's my intake. Before doing so, I would like to share my story of one of my awakenings. Spirituality has always lived in my bones since childhood. My mother allowed me to experiment with spirituality, never imposing any on me. As I grew, I involved myself with different spiritual communities, including a special place called VineyardOneNYC—a diverse group of spiritual friends in the heart of Williamsburg, Brooklyn. In retrospect, I am grateful for the love this group held for each other. An inspiration I keep with me.

But the most significant spiritual awakening I've had thus far was one of the most challenging. 2017 was the most brutal year. One year, that broke my heart into many pieces. Nataly and Enid from the Bronx both crossed over that year. Mother and daughter, niece and sister, both gone that year. My sister passed from terminal cancer, and my niece crossed over from a drug overdose. At the time, I was working long hours at a hospital, trying to pay visits to my ill sister. I remember her sweet face every time I visited, as if we re-met each other every time. So much love! My family members passing; this very moment awakened me in so many ways unimaginable. It wasn't the prettiest awakening. There was grief and pain involved, a rollercoaster. But I came out of the other side awakened asf. Today marks six years since my sister and niece transitioned to the spirit world. So my heart fills up just by sharing this with you.

But what really is it…

A spiritual awakening is like waking up to our shadow, authentic self and learning to navigate it. Then, as time passes, so does clarity about who we truly are.

The process isn’t linear and may feel more like being on a roller coaster. We go through an up-and-down motion to awaken to the true essence.

Connection to the inner world is the container that holds our spirituality. It's important to remember everyone is different. Therefore, our paths are unique.

Someone's spiritual awakening may look different than others. Leave comparison of whose more woke to the curb. Spiritual awakenings are not the id, ego, or superego.

There's no need to rush to get more spiritual or start a spiritual practice. Allow the winds of spirit to carry you in that direction. Take small steps before taking the BIG leap. Be patient!

I've noticed once people's awareness awakens, they immediately want to run to figure out what spiritual group they belong to. It's okay to explore different spiritual practices and not know which one is best. Research and ask for guidance.

It's best to take your time to figure the self out first before anything else. Practicing patience makes it perfect. Attempt to reduce anxiety about what is next in the spiritual journey.

Lastly, spirituality lives within our hearts, and connecting to it uniquely makes our spiritual awakening fascinating. It may not all look colorful like a rainbow, but parts are beautiful as the warm, Fall sun glistening into my room window this evening.

New Moon 21° Virgo | Horoscope for the Signs

Today, I share a short story conquered as a reminder of the archetype that lives within Virgo—followed by the symbolism of the sign leading us into the horoscopes for the 12 zodiac signs. 

The Goddess stands outside Jose Quezada's Bodega with freshly baked Italian bread from the Palagonia Bakery. She waits for Clemente's famous flower shop in the kitty corner to open its breezy doors. An arcoíris of flower arrangement hangs from the door frame. A million natural perfumes emanating from the plants into the Goddess's nose. She pauses for a moment to embrace it all. Living in her new nature. Living in her essence. 

Virgo symbolizes the Virgin Goddess carrying a stack of wheat in her arms. Virgo represents Demeter, the Goddess of harvest and agriculture. Demeter is also known as the Great Mother. In mythology, Demeter was the mother of Persephone, the Goddess of the Underworld. As a mother, she suffered immensely from losing her daughter to Hades (God of the Underworld, aka Pluto). Rage. Melancholy but also strength developed within the Demeter. She's giving BOSS lady energy. Virgo is not only the Virgin but also acquires the power of Demeter. There's an innate ability to connect to the earth and branch out in intellectualism with Virgo.

A friend asked me when we'll be able to see the New Moon in the sky. Because the new Moon is dark, it is not visible as the Full Moon. Instead, we may feel the energy as it move in the cosmos.

Mercury Retrograde in Virgo All Signs + Soulful Guidance

Expect to go off course with your daily routine. Try something different everyday, See how it feels. 

SOULGuidance: Take time to fine tune some of things in your to-do list or bucket list you’ve forgotten about. Now is the time to plan the revisit and when it’s time take the leap 

Taurus

Mercury Rx: Embark on a journey to better understand romance in your life. If there’s a creative hobby you want to pursue, take the time to revisit it.

SOULGuidance: Reflective Questions 

• How does romance show up in your life? 

• Would you like to be more present with romance? Yes, why? No, why? 

• Make a list of any creative hobbies you’ve been thinking about pursuing. Just write them all down without thinking about them logically. When you’re done, circle the ones that catch your attention.

Be mindful of leaks, flooding or technical issues at home. A wound dehiscence resurface issues within your family. Instead of fighting your way through. Lean back a bit. Rest and reset. Then tackle the issues head on. 

SOULGuidance: Keep/ start a dream journal. As dreams  become vivid during this time.Upon waking write all that you remember. It’s okay if you don’t recall the dream. It’ll come back later. 

Cancer 

Before running away with all kinds of ideas, process it first! Communication can get fussy for you my dear Cancer. When you feel overwhelmed and arguments erupt, take a deep breath. Try not to hide too much in your protective shell or take anyone's comments too seriously. Let negative comments roll down your back   

SOULGuidance: Stand with your arms wide open looking towards the East. If you’re not sure which direction is East use the compass on your phone. Stand with your back nice and straight. Take 3 deep breaths. On the last breath, close your eyes. Bring awareness to the bottom of your feet as you connect to Earth. Notice how the Universe supports you. When you’re ready, open your eyes. How do you feel? 

Leo 

You may start to rethink that your worth is compromised. Mercury Rx cast a bit of shadow around any current misalignments regarding self worth and your finances to reshape how you can stand more as your true self. There’s no need to be harsh on yourself. What you’re learning during this season is beneficial for the long term commitment to your true essence. By the way, no one is competing with you. Only you can compete with yourself. 

SOULGuidance: If you’ve been doing shadow work. Continue the work. Keep a journal. Everyday make it a practice to write at least one word that resonates with you at the very time and moment you’re in. If you'd like to take it a step further, here are suggestive reflection questions to ask the lion/lioness within:

• What’s a part of myself that I’ve been denying? Why? 

• How can I start to integrate this part of myself in my daily routine? 

Virgo

Are you thinking of traveling during this time? Think about it! It may not be favorable because the plans you have in mind may not go according to your itinerary. There may be feeling that there are blockages and challenges.. Practice patience and be kind to yourself. Leave room for mistakes to happen. I know mistakes are not your cup of tea. Take one moment at a time. Remember to be good to yourself. 

SOULGuidance: Practice patience. You may be wondering how to do so. Patience requires some level of awareness. Throughout the next 3 weeks, bring awareness to your feelings, conversations and pay close attention especially in times when the environment around you feels chaotic. Tap into the word patience by slowing it the f* down 

Libra

It’s time to retreat my dear. It’s better to go with the flow than fight your way through this season. You’re asked to sit down with all of it, the good and the challenges. You may feel as your in an illusive space. Let yourself be grounded by connecting to earth around you. Leave space for ideas at work or in your mind to float in. 

SOULGuidance: If you have a spiritual practice, turn up the volume by spending more time connecting to the higher up and really diving into what needs to be cleaned out of your life. So renewal can enter. If you don't have a practice, create one that feels good to you and make it a consistent one even after the season is over. 

Scorpio

Sporadic changes to your tribe. Time to rethink your partnerships. Does it bring you peace, hope, tranquility? Or does it bring you the opposite? While old doors are closing off to people who are shedding from your life. Another brand new door opens to people who see the bigger picture of your vision.

Sagittarius

What hasn’t worked in your career doesn’t mean you’re failing. It means to replan so after this season you can begin to rebuild. There’s something in your career you’ll need to fine tune. Stay quiet about, replan and then present it out in the world after the retrograde

SOULGuidance:Go to your local library to loan  business-related books to help you restructure your career. Search online for inspiration. Or, create a mood board that reflect your career goals on apps like Pinterest or do it the old school way with paper, scissors and magazines

Capricorn  

Your belief system comes into question during this season. What you think is right or wrong about what you believe is up for discussion. Remember beliefs stem from early childhood, skewed or not. Attempting to hold on tightly  to those beliefs is counter productive during this time. It’s best if you allow yourself to read, learn or listen to others' belief systems.

The Journey to Truth With Black Kyanite

Welcome to the Mystical Intelligence blog The Journey to Truth With Black Kyanite.

On a summer morning, I find myself intuitively being guided to a farmers market. At the entrance of the market a table of stones calls me over. It was a lonely table covered with some of the most beautiful rocks I’ve seen in a while. A man with short dark hair approaches to assist me. But it wasn’t necessary because my eyes had landed on a Black Kyanite pendent. With its flaky edges and dark/grey tones I wasn’t sure if it’ll be too delicate to wear. The man assured me it would be fine. If it falls there a possibility of breaking but otherwise it should be fine. “It’s a powerful stone,” says the man. I don’t think much about it until my journey with it…

What is Black Kyanite?

Black Kyanite is an aluminum silicate mineral with a hardness quality. Black Kyanite is associated with the third eye and heart chakra. Some of the metaphysical properties associated with the stone is it works as an inner bridge, psychic abilities, earth connection, past life, and empathy. Other kinds of kyanite includes: blue, indigo, and even orange.The orange kyanite is believed to unblock the 2nd chakra (sacral) and bring in creativity. Green kyanite is believed to bring in a deeper connection with earth. Indigo Kyanite is believed to aid in astral travel.

The Changing Power

My experience with Black Kyanite was unprecendented. Immediately upon wearing the pendant I a felt grounded. Its protective energy encapsulate my very being. Throughout the weeks as I wore the Kyanite many realizations unfolded before my eyes. There were areas in my life- at that moment- I needed to come face to face with. Black Kyanite helped open the doorway to exploring my inner truth, humility and self preservation with sprinkles of love. I faced challenging traumas , and revelations of my parents traumas. Ultimately leading me to path of realization where my truth could be a vessel for love. Where I can come to terms with unraveling from issues that have been placed on me as a responsibility. That I no longer needed to take on but rather that I can release. The journey with Kyanite was one of inner growth. I couldn’t be more apperciative like I am today.

Oh baby! Dreams

Even my dreams were so different. I experienced vivid dreams that became symbols to resolve the truths that I walked upon in my waking life. These symbols were not all pretty in pink. Somewhere were more explicitly pointing to polish myself up and learn sovereignty. What’s inside of us is a reflection of our outer world.

Dreams can be aids to help us resolve issues in our world of course if we choose to do so. Only we have the capacity to decide the readiness to change. When we are ready then the change happens. Sometimes there are times we are not, that’s okay.

Could Kyanite be Moldavite’s Sister?

From experience with both the power of Black Kyanite and moldavite, yes both can be sisters. I feel the pair could assist in healing, trauma healing, inner growth and transformation. In addition, adding a third stone like clear quartz (a master healer) could help to add a splash of clarity in our healing and inner growth.

Yoli Full of Gratitude

Welcome to the Mystical Intelligence blog where I share a story about my friend Yoli full of gratitude.

It’s 5 pm on Wednesday. The sun is outside of my window. Shining its rays. I daze off as I’m eating my dinner of mashed potato with chicken. All of a sudden Yoli appears in my mind's eye. I felt sadness but also gratitude.

Back in 2020, Yoli and I were classmates. We met during an oracle training. Separated by a laptop and an iPad we embarked on this training together. We learned about the moon, intuition, and healing.

At the time, Yoli was ill but as the years progressed her illness got worse. A year later, in 2021, on a summer day, Yoli sends me a message on Facebook. Asking if I could help her with shadow work. That she felt I could help her. Of course, I created a healing plan for her that would guide her to dive deeper into her spirituality.

For 3 months, Yoli and I met behind the Zoom screen since she lived in California and I in New York City. The screen kept us apart psychically but the beautiful work, struggles, realizations, and healing tears she experienced during our work together made us feel close in proximity. I remember speaking to her about forgiveness (I’m such an old soul). I remember her conversations about allowing things to be. Teaching each other vice versus. Words of wisdom bridging us together. Healing to be better. Healing to love. Healing to forgive.

When Yoli came to mind today, I couldn’t help to be grateful for that teaching experience. Specifically, I am grateful to have been able to work with Yoli during the last 3 months of her life. She crossed over towards the end of 2021 - possibly a month after our last meeting. I called her but she was going through a big transitional phase, which I understood.

Today She appears in my heart as a reminder of my great work. She reminds me to be present. Within that presence to be gratitude. She reminds me to take a pause to reflect. So grateful for my dear friend Yoli full of gratitude.

Love in The Sky is blaring from my over-the-ear headphones. The rhythm making its way into my bones. My body begins to twist into the metaphysics of my aura. Taking me to new heights of the emotional mind. Peeping into an hourglass looking into where I would lay my head and lips. So soft were the heartbeats of those beautiful people.

In between every verse, I hear my heavy breathing. The softness of my skin touches my beloved lovers. A mountain so high I see a futon where my lovers and I can rest. Climaxing as we rubbed skin to skin. With no worries about the past, present, or future.

Abel

Abel Makonnen Tesfaye, aka The Weeknd, was born on February 16, 1990, in Toronto, Canada. His mother and grandmother migrated to Canada from Ethiopia in the 1980s. According to the media, Abel was a party animal and later as he was working found himself doing music. At first, Abel was releasing his music mysteriously on youtube with different women on his cover albums. As a fan of Abel's work back in 2014, I could relate to his melancholy, and the transcending beats of his music.

Love in the Sky on Repeat

After listening to the song on repeat. I decided to dig deeper into the meaning behind Love in The Sky. In Love in The Sky, Abel speaks of a woman (stripper) he falls in love with while on tour. Immediately my fingers grasped a pen and paper. I flipped on my laptop to search for Abel’s natal chart to get an understanding of how his astrology influences "Love in the Sky" and its success.

When I cast Abel's chart I took a look at his Sun, Moon, and Rising. His Sun is in 27 degrees of Aquarius in the 8th house (a ha!), his moon is in 17 degrees of Scorpio ( aha! aha!), and AC (Rising) is in Cancer! Woowee, Abel’s natal chart is emotionally deep!

Moon-Pluto Conjunction | 5th House Story

After casting the chart my eyes took me to Abel's 5th house story. The moon is 17 degrees of Scorpio and Pluto is 17 degrees Scorpio conjunct each other. During Abel's youth, there was strife between him and his mother due to misunderstandings. This Moon-Pluto conjunction also points to the powerful matriarchal line in his life- mother and grandmother. At some point, Abel left his home in Toronto, Canada to escape this Plutonian relationship with his maternal figures. Roaming the streets for the next escape to free himself and the mind. Eventually, Abel landed a job and after meeting music producer, Jeremy Rose upstarted his music career.

Support through his talent | Sextile

This Moon-Pluto conjunction is deep! This conjunction s supported by a sextile to his Mars + Venus+ Saturn Capricorn in the 7th house. Abel desired to be in deep relationships with others but felt alienated. Hence he sings of his melancholy surrounding woman and dark sex while escaping from these experiences with drugs. At that time, he wanted to be understood and loved but found it a challenge. However, Abel transformed his melancholy by releasing these deeply felt emotions through his vocal cords.

Collective Consciousness | Jupiter 12th House Story

His singing escaping into the ears of the collective consciousness with Jupiter in Cancer (exalted!) in the 12th house. Abel brought healing to many. Even today as I listen to his more classic albums like Kiss Land, I have found that the majority of people speak about how he brings them a sense of healing in their darkest moments. I've even seen a comment where someone wrote how Kiss Land is such a Plutonian (transformative) song. I couldn't agree more.

Abel didn’t keep his dark sexual fantasies in the closet. With his Sun in Aquarius in the 8th house, he exposed taboos surrounding darkness, sex, and drugs in a way that opens the collective emotional sphere. As result, his music helped to expand his and his fan’s consciousness into the cosmos by giving light to deep emotions and pain.

Musical talent | Imum Coeli in Libra

Furthermore, as I was exploring Abel's chart I realized a connection in the origin of his musical talent! Abel's IC (Family, Land, Ancestors) is in Libra. I sense his musical artistry was an ancestral inclination and innate gift for Abel. Also, he pioneered a new music genre never heard of before. His sun in the 8th house allows Abel to explore his musical talent in the areas of darkness, death, and sex. Though his music has evolved there's an appreciation for what he offers through his music to the world.

After 12+ years of such beautiful music, Abel has reached a level of success in his musical career. Remnants of his classics like Kiss Land, Trilogy, Thursday, and even today with the song Creepin' continue to touch the souls of thousands of listeners. How to Dreamwork

Welcome to the Mystical Intelligence blog! Today’s topic is how to start dreamwork.

Have you ever woken up from a dream but for dear life you couldn’t remember it? But deep down you know it felt significant. Since childhood dreaming was something I experience very intensely. My superconscious or subconscious (Side note: there are many terms. Pick the one you like) would go on a skating rink throughout the night. When I awoke I couldn’t really remember what it was all about but I do recall the feeling these dreams left behind.

“12,000 Dreams Interpreted”

Until my high school years came along. My emo friends and I (yes, I was part of the outcast, the eccentrics, the weirdos) would take a stroll down from Chelsea to Union Square with purple Taro fizzling in our cups. As we laughed about the scene of eccentricities around us. Danielle, AJ and I walked to Barnes & Noble’s on the square. With its grandiose architecture and old wooden door, we would enter the magical world of books. We’ll sit like spaghetti noodles on the grey carpet picking at random book from the shelves and chatting about teenage secrets.

One day was different! We sat in front of a section full of mystical books. A dream book falls onto my lap waiting for me to it turn the page. That day I took home my first dream book ever 12,000 Dreams Interpreted by Linda Shields. I still remember the book clearly as a day. A white cover with cool images stacked heavily on my hands. On I went on the journey of dreams to explore nighttime images.

From adolescence up to now dreams have been an interesting rollercoaster ride. In 2021, I enrolled in a dream science course to level up my dream work. I learned about the connection between brain science + dreams. The strategy I use today to understand my dreams is totally different than in my adolescence. Dreamwork requires patience and practice! Remember this! The more you make a conscious decision to work with your dreams the more you will recall them.

In my work as a magical practitioner, I assist and guide clients to bring awareness to dream symbols by teaching them how to for themselves. As well as facilitating my clients to have A Ha! moments through my dream guidance. I do not refer to myself as a dream expert but rather as a guiding lightworker into the realm of sleep.

The Key

If you really want to DO the how-to of dreamwork it’s important to first make the conscious decision to do so. Remember patience and practice will help you along the way. Dreamwork isn’t all about the interpretation as an end goal; it’s about developing a relationship with your subconscious mind. The major key after these steps is to create a routine at first to help recall your dreams. Start with getting a journal or notebook to record your dreams. Welcome to the Mystical Intelligence blog! Today’s topic is Venus in the sign of Pisces. What that means for us collectively. Also, I share a tarot spread my personal spread: Balance, Beauty, and Pleasure to honor the month of love.

What does Venus in Pisces mean? Venus is the planet of beauty, love, pleasure, money, and style + how you attract others. Pisces is mutable, water sign (think about it as m for moveable water). Pisces is the 12th sign of the zodiac. Some of the characteristics of Pisces include depths of dreams, mysticism, and being lost in the sauce with romantics. Pisces is one of the creatives of the 12 signs. Venus moving into the sign of Pisces is what astrologers refer to as an exaltation. Exalted planets like Venus in Pisces feel most potent and can function at their highest potential. In the case of Venus in Pisces, which transited into it’s center stage on January 26th will be at highest peak on Feburary 15th at 7:43 pm and will remain in Pisces until March 12th. it’s as if love meets love. Love is in the air!

From my point of analysis, if you are trying to become pregnant, tie the knot or explore the land of love with/ without another or others (not everyone is monogamous) this is prime time. If you are single and just want to mingle this a great time to do so. Remember to have fun! Bask in the pleasures this transit brings. If you find this transit is difficult remember to find yourself within the land of love. You’ll be amazed the gems you’ll find.

A dusty notebook with pages heavy with written notes clings against the black, sturdy metal bookcase. It hopes to be reopened...rediscovered. I open to a page number blurred by the years. Finding a story orated to me about Osiris. He is a symbol of death, rebirth, and resurrection. The Ouroboros, its tail succumbs to biting fangs. Coming full circle. The process of resurrection rest against my bosom. I turn my face up to the sunrise knowing new beginnings lay ahead.

A new year, a new you? Yes, really!

As 2022 completes its cycle in a few days. Close your eyes for a moment. Begin to imagine 2023 in color or shape. What's the first thing that comes to mind? Take a deep breath as it appears now. How will this color or shape play a part in your life in 23'? Dive deeper by journaling, or relaxing about what came up for you.

Broom Ritual - Sharing a personal practice!

It is said the home is a reflection of the body and mind. I believe this to be true! Have you ever noticed when 'spring cleaning' or decluttering the atmosphere feels lighter as if a weight has been lifted? Or, feeling more at ease knowing your home is spacious? Clearing the home is a great way to build a strong foundation where desires and goals blossom.

In preparation for 23' grab a broom, (if you have a Swiffer or mop that counts too!) starting from the back of your home and going counterclockwise, sweep as you recite the following:

All bad out... Todo lo malo para fuera

All good in... Todo lo bueno para dentro

When you're ready dispose of all the dust and junk! See all negative energy become smaller. So small it dissipates as you throw it away. When you're ready take a deep breath. See yourself let go. Now, think of the color or shape you received for 2023. Breathe in and out as your home is clear now. May this ritual bring renewal into your life.

Crystals for Your Sun + Rising Signs

Welcome to the Mystical Intelligence blog topic ~ Crystals for Your Sun + Rising Signs.

It’s Libra season! There is a New Moon in Libra, which means the sun and moon sit next to each other. During the New Moon phase, we can begin anew and start fresh even if the cycle we're coming out of is dark.

Mercury the planet of communication, and learning is in Virgo the sign -the worker bee- but stationed retrograde until October 4th (approximately depending on location). These astrological influences and energies bring great times of respite to think and plan the new journey we are about to embark on this moon cycle.

To welcome the Libra season and all other energies, I’ll like to share a tiny crystal guide for your sun and rising sign. The crystals are suggestions for amplification, body, and healing. The guide is a mix of my crystal and astrology knowledge + intuition.

First, let me define the sun + rising sign for those who are new or just starting Astrology. The moment we are born stars, planets, and asteroids align in a certain way in the sky. We have the Sun Sign (Birthday), which is our essence, where we shine the most, what we came to do and how we navigate the world. The Rising Sign (Asc or Ascendent) is where the sun was rising at the moment of birth in the East. The rising sign plays a significant role in how we live out the sun sign. Think of the Sun as the car and the rising sign as the driver.

In the following, look for your Sun sign first. Proceed to look up your rising sign. Lastly, body placements are in the video provided below. Each zodiac sign has a corresponding body part.

Virgo | The Divine Feminine

Welcome to the Mystical Intelligence blog topic ~ Virgo Season | Body, Divine Feminine + Yod!

We're a few weeks into the beautiful Virgo Season. It's getting a little chilly here in New York City and a bit darker, but I enjoy it because it's given me time to rest and re-align. Before diving into the connections, I want to discuss in the blog; I'll like to share a few details: Virgo is the 6th zodiac sign and lives between Leo's fires and Libra's sweet-scented air. I imagine Virgo using the fire of Leo to create and Libra's air to incubate ideas and knowledge. The season runs from August 23rd-September 22nd. Aries-Virgo marks the 1st half of life, baby, childhood, and adolescence. In contrast, Libra- Pisces marks adulthood and old souls.

In the Tarot, Virgo corresponds to Key IX, the Hermit. It's the overarching archetype of the seer. An old-bearded seer is holding a lamp illuminating the path for those who follow behind them.

In Astrology, Virgo is mutable-earth (moveable Earth) and relates to the 6th house of the body, health, service, and work. Mercury, the personal planet of commerce, communication, and ideas, is Virgo's ancient ruler.

In Greek Mythology, Virgo is Persephone, the daughter of the Earth goddess Demeter. She’s symbolic of the virgin, soon to be abducted by Hades (God of the Underworld). Hades takes her to the underworld. The story is that Perspheny remains 6 months out of the year in the underworld. During Spring, she rises to Earth for the next 6 months until it’s her time to go back. From my perspective, Persephone loses a part of her Divine Feminine when she’s abducted, but she reclaims it when she’s above ground.

Divine Feminine in Virgo Season

In my analysis, Virgo is a connection of purity, body + mind, and changes on Earth. Of course, this came through as I wrote a community newsletter. In the process, I felt a connection between Virgo and the Divine Feminine. When we take the time to connect to the body, however that looks, we find the feminine divine with us. Remembering the divine fem is available to everyone. Everly is changing us as needed, similarly to Earth's constant changing season.

The first step is to be conscious of the physical body by showing signs of care, love, and kindness. Then, the body becomes a vehicle that takes us to a place where we can connect to the old-bearded seer—illuminating our divine self and making adjustments to improve the situations in our life for the better. Secondly, we can connect to the divine by listening to Earth's natural rhythms and sounds, and lastly, dance and work with the pelvic space to upstart our relationship with the divine.

Yod: The little with so much

Yod, or Yud, is a letter in the Hebrew Aleph-Bet. The Aleph-Bet has 22 letters; in Kabbalah, each letter corresponds to a Major Arcana (Archetype) in the Tarot. The Hermit corresponds to Yod, which has a gematria of 10 (value 10). 10 the beginnings and endings. We start at square 1 or end the cycle. Ten is also related to the 10 spheres on the Tree of Life. Beautifully, Yod is the hand of God or the divine. An open hand to the human being.

In the Secrets of the Hebrew Letters, Rabbi Avraham Arieh Trugman mentions that Yud is the beginning of creation - the Big Bang Theory. We grow to become something from that tiny atom. Similarly, the Yud is the little with so much. It's the flame that burns over the candle and in the lamp of the Hermit. Illuminating all within us is essential and gives us the vitality to live. Each of us has so much potential that we cannot see. It’s the little within us that so much! The limitless potential we have to make Earth better. The Divine Feminine is one of those illuminations within us.

Intuition: Unveil the Big I

Welcome to the Mystical Intelligence blog topic ~ Intuition: Unveil the Big I. Intuition is beautiful, but the understanding of intuition can be quite mystical and fuzzy to a beginner or a bae going through their spiritual awakening. As a professional tarot reader, offering psychic readings in the community, street, vendor markets, and metaphysical shops, I have found that 20% of clients ask questions about intuition. Questions such as "How do you connect?" "How can I improve my intuition?" "I want to work with a deity; how can I start?" "These questions are multifaceted and abundant. Therefore, in today's blog, I define intuition, my story, and a few practical ways to start on the journey to unveil intuition for yourself. 

The Big "I" 

The word intuition, aside from its spiritual context, needs sustenance. So about three years ago, while I was upstarting a podcast episode on the Big "I," it led me into a rabbit hole of different ways to define intuition, which I share below. To be honest, they make sense. However, I felt there was more to these plain sentences. 

a.) "Known as an apprehension or cognition of knowledge without the direct involvement of the known physical senses; it may be described as knowing something without knowing how one knows" (Erickson, 2011). 

b.) "Knowledge from an ability to understand or know something immediately based on your feelings rather than facts." (Cambridge Dictionary)

c.) "The ability to understand something immediately without the need for conscious reasoning" (Oxford Languages)

d.) "Denoting spiritual insight or immediate spiritual connection" (Oxford Languages) Late Middle English ( a combination of Latin, late Latin, and English) 

After reading this list, I got the gist of intuition and the focus on 'feelings,' but I needed to stir the pot a little more.

Okay back! The A HA! Moment 

So I proceeded to take off my oversize glasses from my sweaty cheeks. I pondered as my pen made it to my green velvet table until...I remembered an oldie in my book collection titled “Psychic Phenomena.” Slate (1988) studied psychic phenomena through extra sensory perception (ESP) - telepathy, clairvoyance, and precognition. A ha! These concepts made sense to me based on my experience with intuition. Intuition doesn't exist in a vacuum; instead, it's enriched by these concepts and our receptivity to intuit. The biggest takeaway from the book is intuition is buildable and practical. Intuition doesn't come out of thin air; there are ways to practice and strengthen our Big I. 

Additionally, I find the connection to the solar plexus (Manipura) meaningful. The solar plexus is the 3rd primary chakra in Eastern teachings. The solar plexus sits right below the breast area- the pit of the stomach. This sweet spot is referred to as the celiac plexus in human anatomy. The CP is full of nerves connected to the sympathetic nervous system- our "fight" or "flight" responses and to essential organs such as the liver, stomach, kidneys, and adrenal glands (which sit on top of the kidney and release hormones). Your connection to the solar plexus is essential in familiarizing yourself with the Big I.   

Big I and I 

I want to clarify that everyone, even you, can tap into intuition. It’s essential to be flexible, willing, and open to practicing intuition. From a little girl visiting Espiritistas in Puerto Rico to having an auntie who read the cards and a mother who allowed me to pick my spiritual path, I was exposed to the intuit I was to become in my adult life. Nevertheless, intuition wasn’t always a comfort zone for me- sometimes I felt afraid of ‘it”. As I got older, I let go of the fear and, thus, decided to consistently practice my Big I. My goal was -and still is- to connect deeper with my inner compass, where my intuition stems from, and allow external senses of clairvoyance and precognitions through dreams to flourish. I connect to my Big I through my body (11 min morning stretches & 23 mins of Full Body strength workouts on the Nike Training Club App), mediating, going inward, and trusting my abilities. Feeling, hearing, and seeing all simultaneously is my Big I. Below I share a quick guide to intuition based on my practice. Take what resonates and leave behind what doesn't for a later time. 

Quick- Guide by Shayla 

Morning or Before bed or whenever the fuck you feel like doing it! 

1. Do a clearing and protection ritual for your physical space 

2. Declare a sacred space by setting an intention 

3.  I put on solfeggio or brainwave frequencies to calm + activate my brain  

4. If you like, have a journal and something to write nearby

5. Take a nice deep, cleansing breath 

6. When you feel ready, close your eyes 

7. Imagine your third eye or the space in between your eyebrows going inward 

8. Bring awareness to your solar plexus - pit of your stomach 

9. When ready

10. Begin to build your inner space with ease- how do you want the inside of your body to look like and feel - if this is a challenge, know you can change and adjust the things within 

11. Notice any colors, sensations, sounds, or scent 

12. When you feel ready, wiggle your toes and fingers and come back to your physical space 

13. Journal away

14. Practice daily

I wrote this piece on intuition over 2+ years ago: 

It was 4 am when I wrote this piece. At that time, I was visiting my father in Florida. That night for some reason, I felt so inspired and woke asf - the same feeling I have right now. In the writing process, I channeled the message: Talk with Intuition [Original writing: The message that came through me this morning was "Talk with intuition." I wasn't sure what that meant, so I dug a little deeper….] That morning I happened to pull the Page of Cups. The Page of Cups is a court card - it's the inner child with no ego, no identity, and no fear of the unknown. They are true dreamers. Not afraid of judgment. Not shun away from using their imagination. They listen carefully to the inner voice without limits. 

[Original writing cont'd] 

… .there's a need for a profound relationship with our intuition that is honored, acknowledged and nourished. When intuition is nurtured, we are more likely to feel deeply connected to the self. Meanwhile, remembering we have lived experiences, struggles, and solutions that become our inner knowing. 

If you have a tarot deck available, take a closer look at the image on that card. I am currently using the Waite-Smith deck. What stood out when I received "talk with intuition" was the small fish in the cup. This card is associated with play and inner child but looking to understand the card outside the traditional associations. The fish is symbolic of how intuition works. Even the person's posture in the image indicates some conversation happening- they are talking to their intuition. From the picture, I feel a relationship happening or maybe a flow of the subconscious that nourishes, acknowledges (whatever needs awareness), and honors (give intuition, which is your inner knowing a "Thank you").  

When the fish spirit animal appears, "it brings a message of hope, and it empowers you to make the right decisions. The fish also brings the power of the water depths" (Clifford, 2021). Connection to the fish's spirit as a guide can lead to feeling through decisions and flow like the element of water. 

My wisdom to you, beautiful spiritual bae, is to call upon your intuition like the Page with the little fish in the cup.

WTF? Pelvic Steam

Welcome to today's Mystical Intelligence topic: Pelvic Steam. My name is Shayla M. Rose; I'm an Intuitive Latinx Healer guiding others to heal through metaphysical and holistic wellness.

WTF is Pelvic Steam?

Pelvic Steam (aka Vaginal Steam, Yoni Steam, V-steam) is an ancient practice that consists of water, herbs, and Steam to help with stagnation in the pelvic area and genitals. Pelvic steams are helpful for cramps, missed periods, residue, hemorrhoids, fibroids, postpartum, infertility concerns, and contractions. Before you read, please know that the field of medicine has not done much research on pelvic steams. However, Stanford Medicine has studied treating benign prostate enlargement using Steam. I will discuss this along the way. Furthermore, I will dive into alchemy, the interconnection between pelvic steams and spirituality. 

Where TF does Pelvic Steam Originate? Questions to my mother

I get this question a lot! The origin of pelvic Steam is obscure asf! You may ask why it's so mysterious. Well, the ancient practice of using herbs and water to Steam is folk medicine and has been found worldwide. Many of our ancestors, in one way or another, incorporated steam for gynecological health. I was intrigued by the mystery behind pelvic steam and the reasons why. So I investigated and asked my mother a few curious questions about pelvic steams in Puerto Rico. Here is how it went:

{ES} (1) Mami, cuando estabas en Puerto Rico ¿recuerdas si alguno de tus familiares hacía baños de vapor? Cuando yo era niña mi recuerdo ver mi tia-abuela haciendo bajos

{EN} Mom, when you lived in Puerto Rico, do you remember if any of your relatives used pelvic steam baths? I remember seeing my grandmother's sister doing steam baths when I was a little girl.

{ES} (2) ¿Recuerdas si su tía-abuela usaba hierbas para los bajos? ¿Qué tipo de hierbas? Cuando era niña, recordaba a la hermana y las tías de mi abuela hirviendo hojas de malvavisco creando vapor para hacer sus "bajos.” Le pregunté sobre los tipos de plantas medicinales que su tía-abuela usaría para los bajos, su respuesta fue cualquier planta que estuviera cerca para usar y todo tipo de plantas.” 

{EN} Do you remember your grandmother's sister using herbs? What kind did she use? When I was a little girl, I remember my aunts and grandmother's sister boiling marshmallow leaves and creating steam for their "bajos." So I asked about the kinds of medicinal plants her tia-abuelas would use, and her response was "any plant that was around to use and all kinds of them."

Fun fact! The term bajos is used in certain parts of Puerto Rico to describe pelvic steaming. Let’s break it down - Bajo (base) + baños (bath). Base + bath + steam= pelvic steam. Let me know if you can think about a word used to describe pelvic Steam in your culture! But back to the point, pelvic steams are prevalent in all these beautiful continents: Africa, Asia, Europe, the Caribbean, and Central America - to name a few. Thus, making pelvic steam a universal practice.

Medicine + Research

The continuation of the obscurity of Pelvic Steam trickles down into the field of medicine. In recent years, the field of medicine has researched the benefits of Steam for enlarged prostrates and cardiovascular disease. According to Pandiaraja et al. (2021), they were the first to study the effects of a single steam bath on cardiovascular function. The results of the study point to a decrease in volunteers' high blood pressure (HBP). It was reported that after a single steam bath, there was a decrease in HBP and reduced heart rate, diastolic ( bottom number -blood within arteries between heartbeats ), and systolic ( top number- the pressure when blood goes in the arteries). No adverse effects of a single steam bath were found in the control or experiment group (Pandiaraja et al., 2021). Steam works well to heal the body.

Another piece of research I came across is the Rezum treatment. Rezum is a minimally invasive therapy using Steam to aid prostate gland enlargement (Westwood et al., 2018). In 2015, the FDA approved the study of Rezum. Results show that Rezum is a short-term treatment for restoring and preserving sexual function. However, the therapy excludes individuals with specific urological health concerns. I highly suggest considering how novice this research is, plus the advantages and disadvantages of the results. There's a lot more research to be done! But for now, Steam is making a change in some way or the other in people's health.

I had to leave the best for last on this one! A fascinating study I came across for midwives, doulas, and birthing queens is the research I am about dive into. Recent research conducted by Sholekha et al. (2021) studied the effects of hydrotherapy on pregnant with hypertension. The treatment consists of pregnant women soaking their feet in 37-39C degrees and 40-43C degrees water for 20 minutes. Results show pregnant women who underwent hydrotherapy with higher temperatures (40-43C) had decreased hypertension. To conclude, Sholekha et al. (2021) hope midwives can gain new knowledge and suggest hydrotherapy as an alternative to pills/medicine for pregnant clients with hypertension.

I found these pieces of research helpful in reframing the benefits steaming has on the physical body. My hope for the near future is more research on Pelvic Steam. But, most importantly, for people to have access to such beautiful alternative and holistic medicine.

WTF does Alchemy have to do with anything?  

Now let's talk about the alchemical process. On May 2, 2022, I wrote a blog post titled: The Alchemy of Pelvic Steam. I wrote the blog based on my training as a practitioner and my observations. You may wonder wtf does alchemy have to do with pelvic steaming. Imagine the following…

Let's begin by separating each element, water being the primary source of healing. Water -like our feelings- need a container to sit and brew. The pot (earth) becomes a vessel, which can contain heat (fire) and water. The stove or burner flame we see at the bottom creates a flame that fuses/separates different elements together and heats the pot (earth). The pot (earth) rises to a high temperature to create movement in the water. We then begin to see bubbles and hear the whistling water. When we are captivated by the sound, we lift the top, and Steam (air) begins to rise. Then herbs (earth) are sprinkled. With the moisture (water), we can start to heal by sitting over steamy healing waters for our body, pelvic area, reproductive health, and emotions that bring us to a state of oneness (alchemy) and connect us all deeper to earth. 

WTF does Spirituality have to do with Pelvic Steam? 

As a Pelvic Steam Practitioner, I am honored to merge both mediums of spirituality x pelvic steam as an avenue of healing. This is a continuum of my alchemic practicum. The spiritual side of pelvic Steam has many benefits; I find divine and sacral connections most important from my practice and client observations. These kinds of connections are unique to every individual. The merging of Spirituality and steams is not a "cookie cutter" or a "quick fix" to health concerns/issues. Instead, pelvic Steam is a sacred space to connect with the self in profound ways. There's a need to be patient with the process. Pelvic steam aid in balancing the nervous system. Also, it helps clear away the old (literally old residue), transmutes the past, and reinvigorates creativity within. Remember, spiritual oneness and health are alchemy.

Mercury Rx | The Soda Float

Mercury is stationed retrograde from May 10th to June 3rd, a time of inner work, introspection, and shadow work. Many astrologers state that our communicative styles become more challenging during this energy, technology malfunctions, and many other cliches. However, Mercury stationed Rx doesn't have to be these three "emo" weeks. You know why because we reframe this energy to our advantage by writing to heal the voice and bring awareness to our communication style and mind. Ultimately, creating a space to integrate the good ol' lessons to grow.

Storytime

It goes something like this... I was in Rockafeller Center yesterday celebrating my friend’s Birthday at a roller skating rink. As I'm standing there watching people glide on roller skates, I begin to crave Mr. Softee's ice cream. So I go on a little hunt to find one. I found an ice cream truck a few blocks away. I ordered a vanilla ice cream in a waffle cone. Before leaving, I glanced at the menu and noticed the soda floats. It was too late to order the float!

Overnight, I dreamt of traveling to Puerto Rico. In the morning, I had a eureka moment! I realized the connection between the soda float and the dream. The soda float was part of a childhood memory. When my family and I would go on vacation to Puerto Rico. My mother and I would go to 'El Pueblo' (a commercial area at the center of town). In el pueblo, there was a candy shop that served soda floats. I loved it there! The memory of the soda float -especially the sweetness lingering in the air- and the narrow sidewalks of the town leading us to different stores felt good. I would bask in the taste of such deliciousness along the way. All of my childhood memories came coursing through me just by glancing at a picture of a soda float. That very memory landed in my dream world pointing to an important part of my waking life.  

Lesson

The lesson here is memories are magickk. Whether light or dark, working with memories can help us change something within us to create the change we want in our life that focuses on 'I am’ and the 'now.'
